George W Bush did the right thing -- for once.

For once President Bush did the right thing by giving General Motors and Chrysler $17.4 billion in loans. Yes, I know many people feel government shouldn't bail out private industry. However there are a few things to consider.

1. For over 100 years the US Auto industry has been the backbone of America's economy. It provided employment for millions of people both as company employees, vendors, and virtually all of the commerce in communities where they are located.
2. At the outbreak of World War 2 they rapidly shifted to manufacturing Aircraft, tanks, trucks and other equipment to support the war effort.
3. In time of War many employees left their jobs to serve in our nations military knowing when they returned there would be a job waiting for them.
4. Over all these years the Auto manufacturers spearheaded multiple charity programs and gave back to the community in many ways.

Now in a time of need, all these points are forgotten. Did the Auto manufacturers go to Washington looking for a handout? No just a loan. They were forced to ask Congress for money since the broken banking industry failed to do so. This is the same banking industry that has received billions in government assistance with no questions asked and no stipulation what they do with the money.

There is no doubt in my mind that the US Auto Industry will return to being the profitable companies they were in the past. Once they do I hope they remember what states the members of the legislature that supported them came from when it comes to future expansion.

Over the past 8 years, I have opposed many choices President Bush has made. This time, he did the right thing. Thank you Mr President.
